In the US, 5 billion polyethylene pill-bottle packages go to landfill and ocean dumps every year. Looking for a plastic-free alternative that’s durable and safe, the designers of this eco-friendly pill bottle were naturally led to 100% compostable and biodegradable paper.
The idea was simple, but the process turned out to be quite the journey. They explored boxes, barrels and paper tubes before settling on the final design.
The boxes don’t contain any plastic, artificial glue, toxic dyes or coatings and meet US regulations for water, light, and child resistance. Every element will decompose, making it 100% biodegradable and compostable. They contain no artificial glue or toxic dyes.
Producers Tikkun Olam Makers have made this an open-source design for anyone to use. You can find it here. When it was first launched, the design received more than 54 million media impressions in under two months and won the Dieline Awards 2021, Plastic Free Innovation of the Year.
