PAPER PACKAGING TRENDING UPWARDS

SUSTAINABLE PAPER PACKAGING STILL RISING IN POPULARITY.

Not only are companies right across the globe embracing an increase in paper packaging, there’s also a steady increase in innovators who are thinking outside (and inside) the box.

This growth is being driven by the twin market forces of government legislation and consumer demand for sustainable packaging. Research is also showing a consistent trend towards consumers being willing to pay more for eco-friendly packaging which is, in turn, encouraging more investment in alternatives to plastic.

The United Nations is working on a global treaty on plastic pollution and other non-recyclable products, reflecting the significant shifts in standards and expectations for environmentally acceptable packaging. The packaging industry too is highly motivated and active in this arena so expect to see more and more fantastic packaging products becoming available.

Major companies such as Nestlé and Mars Wrigley have recently introduced paper wrappers and the world’s first fully plastic-free paper bottle is already on the shelves with Carlsberg, Coca-Cola, Kraft Heinz and Absolut also trialling paper bottles for their products.

Along with creating more ways to use paper, companies across the world are exploring ways to make paper out of products other than wood. Interesting developments have occurred in using seaweed, hemp and dead leaves to make paper and mushrooms to make packaging.

One of our favourite innovations that’s already here is edible packaging. Research is ongoing into achieving the best product but Better Burgers in the US introduced this to their range back in 2018.
