DIE CUTTING
A die in the print industry is a steel blade created in the custom shape you want your print products to be cut.
That can be the shape of the product, eg. a triangular swing tag, or a space cut out of packaging, eg. a custom shape in the top of a cardboard box.
Die cutting can be as simple or as creative as you want it to be. Companies have used dies to cut out the shape of their logo or the contents inside a box or inside packaging to hold and protect their products.

WHAT IS A DIELINE?
A dieline is the line in your artwork that shows where the folds go and where the die will cut that print product.
Here’s an example from our free Presentation Folder Templates.
This template is for a D-size presentation folder, 220mm x 307mm, with no gusset and two glued tabs.
It also has the additional feature of slits cut into one of those tabs to hold a business card.
All the specs in a template like this can be customised to suit your needs and create a unique print product for your company.
If you use a template like this, you create the artwork to the same specs as the template then overlay it on the artwork when you’re ready to send that file to the printer to show them where to cut and fold the product.
Templates also show your graphic designer where the front, back and sides of the product are so they can visualise and correctly design the artwork for the finished product.
